MOST Cooperation Presented MOST Future at 14th International VDI Congress
"Electronic Systems for Vehicles"

The MOST Cooperation presented a look into the MOST Future at the 14th International VDI Congress "Electronic Systems for Vehicles" in Baden-Baden (Germany). On October 7-8, 2009, member companies of the organization showed various demonstrations presenting High-Definition video over MOST, Ethernet tunneling over MOST, MOST Consumer Connectivity solutions and MOST compliance solutions. The latest MOST Technology succeeded in providing great speed enhancements and breakthroughs in keeping costs down. The new integrated Intelligent Network Interface Controller (INIC) architecture according to Specification Rev. 3.0 expands the audio/video capability for next generation automotive infotainment devices such as Head Units, Rear Seat Entertainment, Amplifiers, TV-Tuners and Video Displays. First series projects implementing MOST150 Technology have already been started by various car makers. Dr. Walter Franz, Daimler AG, gave the conference presentation "MOST150 Physical Layer for Automotive A/V and Data Transmission".

MOST150 Series Adoption - The Latest MOST Technology is Ready for Implementation

The MOST Cooperation proudly announced that the newest Specification Rev. 3.0 is on its way to production. Various car makers have already started with first series projects implementing this latest MOST Technology. With the first car makers committing to the MOST150 network in selected vehicles from 2011 on, the suppliers of MOST devices, tools, and software solutions are focusing on optimizing their MOST150 product portfolio to ease the implementation in future car models. Key targets are cost efficiency and low power consumption while meeting MOST compliance requirements. MOST solutions and tools are already available to enable successful infotainment implementations at the OEM and supplier level. The built-in signal routing and enhanced power management features are important building blocks for successful MOST system design.

Meeting Hybrid and Electro Cars - MOST Technology Is Prepared for a Green Future

MOST Technology is helping the environment by supporting to create greener automobiles. The plastic optical fiber chosen ten years ago significantly reduces the weight of the wiring harness. Particularly for electric mobility, every saving is crucial because all the electrical energy has to be stored on rechargeable batteries before commencing travel. Another issue is "electric smog". On account of its physical properties, an optical transmission does not emit any electromagnetic fields. The 80 vehicle models that have implemented MOST to date now include the first hybrid vehicles – the Toyota Prius, the Toyota Crown Hybrid, the Lexus RX SUV and the Lexus HS250h sedan. With respect to environmental sustainability and electric mobility, MOST Technology is state of the art and constitutes the modern platform for energy-saving infotainment systems.
